I have been working at Tom James Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For a company this large, there's a very entrepreneurial, flexible atmosphere.
You're managed by clear expectations and easy-to-prove results.
Management opportunities increase as you reach objective performance milestones and reflect the company's business principles.
    Really great culture.
After you get 300 or so clients, the day to day is sort of like driving around hanging out with friends and mentors. Clients are really successful people.

    Cons

It's a tough job—a lot of prospecting, takes time and a ton of hard work to build a clientele.
You have to be willing to pick up the phone, make a lot of dials, and handle a lot of rejection.
It's more than just pure sales. You have to manage an entire business: customer service, measuring/fitting, A/R, monitoring your P&L statements, etc.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to update and innovate.

I worked at Tom James Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

What you put in is what you get
    Great training program
    Great culture
    Stock incentives
    Fabulous product and service

    Cons

    Structure depends on each individual.
Experience can vary based on your direct leader (one who has been around a long time and does very well is more likely to be able to assist in the emotional roller coaster that first year)
Not really a con, but you are building your own clientele from the bottom up
In the end it is direct sales that requires consistently approaching people you see, knocking down doors and finding ways to get in front of good guys with money to buy a lot (not really a con, something I did not get over)

    Advice to Management

    Keep leading by example
