Pros

This job is so poor that the only positive thing about it is locking the door when your shift comes to an end.

Cons

You are expected to carry out multiple tasks at the same time. For example 2 staff on a morning whilst open you have to cash up the night befores takings look for errors bank it, whilst pulling in a delivery that turns up at random inconvenient times with 5-9 cages, whilst doing a cash collection for a security firm which should be done with 2 staff, whilst answering phone calls from customer services for customers who want to order over the phone, whilst collecting click and collect orders that come through on internet, whilst decanting the delivery, whilst catching up on ounts that are creeping up to the dead lines, whilst entering all the counts and delivery items that all have to be counted into the pc stamped signed filed, and all this whilst serving at times a large queue of customers!! This is not down to been a good multi tasker or good with time management or having good organisation skills its all about profit over people, doing jobs on your own which requires 3 to 4 people. Plus there is absolutely no margin for error if you make a mistake on a returned item on a system that allows you to miss a drop down box and not be able to go back to it you are written down on a performance sheet where your job performance is reviewed by the sheet monthly (no positives go on this sheet). You start on a morning at 645am but they dont pay you for first 15 minutes. The shop shuts at 7pm but you have to stay until 7:15 and cant leave a minute before even though job is done. When you finish at 4pm your frowned upon or moaned behind your back if you go at 4 because there is still that much to do. If you did stay on for an hour you absolutely have no hope of getting paid for it. You almost always have split days off sometimes finishing before a day off at 7:15 then coming back to and early 6:15, not much scope to do anything in your free time. You get phoned on days off to come in and cover sickness or about errors from the night before. Been a supervisor and having all this and other responsibilities such as health and safety, first aid at work and writing weekly bulletins about the store and peformance i got paid a staggering £7.35 an hour!! If you do overtime they hate paying you time and a half and wont give you it instead promise to give you time back which more likely than not wont happen. Really dont know how I lasted a year before getting a new job feel sick thinking about the place.

Thank you for your review. We are growing rapidly in a highly competitive market so we don’t always get it right first time. We are always reviewing where we are and how we can do things better. This year we will run our first Colleague Questionnaire with the support of our parent company Travis Perkins. This will give all colleagues an opportunity to provide feedback that we can use to make Toolstation a great place to work.
