I have been working at Town Sports International Holdings part-time

Pros

You get to work with many different kinds of people, and as a skating coach I have been humbled by the progress of my students and my role in helping them achieve their skating goals.

Cons

My job requires being up rather early in the morning, and getting to the facility where I teach is not the most convenient at times.

I have been working at Town Sports International Holdings full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Access to all of the gym locations and that is pretty much it.

    Cons

    - Base pay is under minimum wage
    - Unrealistic quotas
    - Lot's of pointless prospecting
    - A lot of downtown and slow months
    - People think you are annoying for calling all of the time. People want to join the gym when they want to and do not want someone harrassing them to make a sale.

    Advice to Management

Daily meetings are pointless when you do the same thing everyday and it shows to be ineffective

I worked at Town Sports International Holdings part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free gym membership
Decent pay compared to other gyms

    Cons

Not enough employee protection, management watch dogs
Benefits are horrible, it takes over a year to be eligible for anything.

    Advice to Management

There need to be more safeguards in place when it comes to management. Good management will solve most of the problems, but the few managers I've had the pleasure to meet are more interested in covering their own butt than looking after their employees. Some even corrupt, with their own supervisors not being much better, sweeping unfortunate things under the rug. Not all management mind you, but enough to make it a problem. Have an outside source allow employees to give anonymous reports, in person, without the manager or anyone who might tell the manger being involved. I've seen a manager get an anonymous report using the current online reporting system and then calling a meeting, threatening to fire people if they ever got another. Having an outside source would take care of that from happening as well.
