I worked at Tractor Supply full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Great relationships with people there. Great rewards for success

Cons

You have to continue to perform. An A type personality is good to have here and it is a very political climate

Advice to Management

HR should be more proactive in listening to employee needs.

I worked at Tractor Supply full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get a Team Member Discount of 15%. The store closes at 8pm which is considerably earlier than most retail chains. TSC also offers stock option plans and flexible spending accounts.

    Cons

Below standard wages for every position within the store. Very unstable work schedule from week to week. High demands for weekend work so don't expect to plan any family events. Very low payroll in the store which poses a problem for getting desired amount of work finished. Management is quick to "coach" you with written warnings when you do not clock out for lunch eventhough you didn't have enough team members that evening to cover the shift.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach! There is no follow through with warnings for upper managment. They cram ethics down everyones throat but in fact, they do not follow their own rules. The "Good Buddy" system is alive and well in upper management. Be more knowlegeable of what the "store level" goes through on a daily basis. You will never see upper management put on a red vest and work in a store with only one cashier. They should have to work a store for 3 nights being the closing manager, feed stocker, bathroom cleaner, floor sweeper and salesperson all in one. Let's see what you can get done!

I have been working at Tractor Supply part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling. Usually pays more than minimum wage at hire. Ability to transfer if you move. Potential monthly bonuses for team members if sales plan has been met. Variety in customer base.

    Cons

Understaffing due to payroll. At the registers a team member often has to bombard customer with multiple questions at the same time ( item of the month, 4-H donations, tax exemption, zip code or telephone number) this often results in uncomfortable situations. If you are part time expect to be working national holidays ( labor day, July 4th). Old store locations in a state of disrepair often get a makeover rather than repaired.

    Advice to Management

Simplify your product line-- you are trying to cram too much product into tiny stores. Examine the trends of feed sales; too often customers come in to discover the feed they need is out of stock until the next truck. Widen the aisles.
