Pros

Pay, bonus, stock performance share units and days off are all at par or above those offered throughout the energy industry. Flex time allowing variable start and end of workday is a benefit. Tools provided in support of the job function are good.

Cons

Difficult to understand at times the desires of management and the measures they will use to evaluate performance. Personnel cutbacks have resulted in higher workload than normal and "burnout" is a possibility. Standards between Canadian and US based employees are not the same i.e. employees in Canada receive 7 more days off that in the US for identical service.

Advice to Management

Improve communication. Work on standardizing work environment between all employees at all locations.

I have been working at TransCanada as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Great environment. Show them that you can communicate, are organized, and have a strong work ethic and you will gain responsibility and be an appreciated team member and compensated more than fairly. No micro-management; flexible hours and lots of trust.

    Cons

Lots of process hurdles to jump and follow sometimes; reorganization happens more than necessary; work will sometimes get stalled from the higher ups due to lack of understanding.

I worked at TransCanada as an intern

    Pros

Great company to work for - depending on the position, interns could get some pretty mundane work. However, if you are a driven individual and your manager likes you, you can get more challenging work.

    Cons

Highly process driven, large company so things move quite slowly. If you are looking to get REAL experience fast it can be difficult depending on your position.

    Advice to Management

More mentoring, less trying to impress upper management. Get rid of the people who aren't performing. They seem to hide in the company and not get let go.
