Pros

Great Salary; Great Reputation; One of the few "big firms" that gives new associates an opportunity to get invovled with important matters and direct client contact (the 2nd years are doing more "substantive work" than many 4th years at other firms

Cons

Too much "working the system" (great if you're a typical *** kisser); too many decisions made based upon comradery rather than compentency; not enough inter-group communication

Advice to Management

Focus on putting Policies into Practice; there are so many goals and objectives of the firm that are great, but as an associate, we do not actually get the practical benefit of them. And, that is incredibly unfair and disappointing to those of us who had the opportunity to go elsewhere, but chose Troutman.

I have been working at Troutman Sanders full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture is very professional and respectful. Lawyers are thankful for your assistance and do not hesitate to say so, as well as telling you you're doing a great job. They reward you for your contribution to the firm and treat you as part of the team

    Cons

Not really any in my opinion. Leadership is wonderful and appreciative of their legal assistants and paralegals

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work of showing your employees appreciation for their contributions to the success of the firm.

I worked at Troutman Sanders full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good insurance and 401k plan

    Cons

They will lie to get you to join the firm, and continue to lie through-out your employment. Poor management and the HR Department is horrible. They turn employees against each other and cause an environment of distrust and anxiety.

Several people on our team were taking anti-depressants and anxiety medications just to come in to work. The use of alcohol was also widespread. This was an extremely toxic work environment.

The HR departments goal is to keep the staff numbers low. They expect you to be able to do the work of 2-3 full time employees and then balk if you work overtime.

You will hate your life if you choose to work there.

    Advice to Management

Fix your management and HR Department or continue to lose valuable team members.
