Pros

Extremely smart coworkers, engaging work, opportunities to work on growth projects, room for upward movement, and flexible time off (but no carry over) and work from home benefits

Cons

Transition to VC ownership has been tough, especially for long term employees that are nostalgic for the "way things were". Two of the biggest impacts of this VC ownership has been the investment in training (technical and interpersonal) is non-existent, and the removal of the innovation culture that allowed for funding or creative and leading edge projects. Staff turnover has been high in recent months, with fewer replacements hired, meaning more work for remaining employees with no compensation boosts to support it. Decisions, even with excellent business cases to support them, can take FOREVER. The office culture is often "Dilbertesque" with nonsensical processes and strange management decisions.

Advice to Management

Be open and honest about our challenges. Being "cagey" is leading employees to believe that there is writing on the wall regarding our long term future that is not positive.
Return the innovation structure to the organization in order to allow more visibility for small but profitable ideas from your extremely smart employee base.

    Pros

The company's PTO is excellent, and if you get into the right group, the flexibility to work from home is very helpful.

    Cons

The inequity of perks - HR lists perks (e.g., the ability to work from home, a flexible time schedule, etc.), but they always use the "up to the discretion of your manager." While I understand that is a given, their management is very uneven. Some managers avoid conflict to the point that, if one person in their group abuses working from home, that perk is either taken away from everyone or it's doled out on a limited basis. Lack of raises - the level of raises over the past few years has been quite abysmal which is causing high turnover. If you want a significant raise, you have to leave the company unless you have a manager that is diligent about requesting a market adjustment.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to preach that you work diligently on hiring and keeping talented employees, you need to show us you mean it by giving increases that prove that claim. Also, if you want to preach the "work smarter, not harder" mantra, work to get rid of the silos of information instead of perpetuating them so that we're not recreating the wheel.

"Nice people and atmosphere, but not very organized and too many VPs."

    Pros

Most people are nice and the atmosphere is not stuffy. They seem to pay nicely as well.

    Cons

Lack of communication as there are multiple offices and projects going on at once. There seems to be an abundance of VPs with every title you could think of.

    Advice to Management

Communicate about the status of projects with a monthly update. The updates do not need to be lengthy or full of buzzwords, just team a is on project x that will wrap up on this date and sell for z. This way people know how our product line is doing and who to contact on each project if needed.
