Pros

Only if you live in tucson. Homes are not as expensive as most parts of the country , but housing is still very expensive. the weather is great, especially during the wnter. Some of the utillities are reasonable for the area. However, in recent months the cost of living is mirroring the rest of the country. If the potential employee is satisfied with the a status quo and a steady paycheck, then City of tucson is the perfect employer. The pace can be very slow and uneventful. In my opinion, the city does try to do right by the employee.

Cons

No transarency of pension plan ,also, nepotism in many departments. City of Tucson seems to lack a plan "B" for many of their plans. The pension plan is mandatory, so they could losing money and not tell the employees. Individuals who are promoted seem to have other relatves in every department of the orginization. The managers of City of Tucson and elected officials are full of hot air, promise much and deliver nothing. By taking the job in Tucson I missed out on other opportunities in the Phoenix area. The cost of living is even less expensive in Phoenix than Tucson.

I worked at Tucson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Independence to be innovative and support from supervisors

    Cons

How many times can they ask you to do more with less. The recession really eliminated a lot of positions through early retirements that they did not refill. Pay increases are very rare.

    Advice to Management

Be bold especially when dealing with Pima County which draws many of the regions resources away from the city.
