I have been working at Turner Broadcasting full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great products, there is an attempt at work - life balance.

Cons

Can't say the process to getting promoted is quantitative or fair. The people that are promoted into management aren't always the best to lead a team. People never seem to leave, has a negative impact on the innovation of the company.

Advice to Management

Open your eyes to see if teams that report to managers are happy. Pay attention to the feedback and ask a lot of questions when your subordinate hires someone. People are "appointing" friends to positions, these aren't always the right people for the job and has a negative impact on the productivity of the rest of the team.

I worked at Turner Broadcasting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked in the Entertainment division. This is a great company filled with smart, creative people. They truly do care about their employees -- there are lots of activities going on all the time on campus (barbeques, launch parties, ice cream socials, picnics). Many departments offer a flexible work schedule - work from hom; benefits are great also.

    Cons

Upward mobility is based more on who you know rather than your work. But that isnt that unusual.

    Advice to Management

Career mobility should not be solely be based on your direct manager. Try a little objectivity.

I worked at Turner Broadcasting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and good pay, and there are a lot of top notch people there.

    Cons

The management in the department I worked for completely ignored performance and promoted purely on the people who would say "yes sir" or "yes ma'am", even if it was blatantly detrimental to the company. They were only interested in their personal agendas, and had no interest in employees who focused on the customer. If you want to keep your job let alone get promoted then you have to suck up...

    Advice to Management

You've started cleaning house in this horrible department, but you need to go much deeper. The problems are still very much there.
