I have been working at U-Haul part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You will learn what hard work is and appreciate any former/future job that much more.

    Cons

Absence of training, mediocre income, extremely stressful, management unavailable/no chain of command. This is the worst work experience I've had in my entire life, without exaggeration.

    Advice to Management

Train employees for the real-life situations they will encounter on a day-to-day basis. Offer a consistent schedule with one weekend day off every week. Pay according to market and the skill-set required to perform the duties at hand. A CSR, at my center, always works alone, yet does not have the authorization to resolve customer issues, thus giving the employee and Uhaul a bad name/review. Do away with the 6 months of service policy in place before an employee may transfer to a position which will better suit the employee and the company. I have never had a conversation with upper management. This is discouraging.

    I worked at U-Haul part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mostly flexible schedule - opportunity to swap and drop shifts w/o manager approval as long as someone can cover you
    Knowledge at your fingertips
Can easily double the base salary through bonuses. Awesome bonus program.
    Most customers are nice
    Co-workers are nice and helpful

    Cons

Saying the same phrase repeatedly, for every phone call can get annoying.
Rude customers who make it difficult to want to help them
Customers who do not understand that there is a reservation process and a lot of questions are asked
You can receive coach's for small issues, which could be avoided if managers are more proactive in answering/assisting agents
Managers want the benefit of being placed in 1st place for sales but do not want to answer questions/guide agents.

    Advice to Management

Do not encourage questions to be asked if they are not answered. In order to be an effective manager, you have to not only manage, but also guide employees. Yes, it's a simple job, but questions will arise and it would be great if they were answered.
