Pros

Great opportunity to network. The people who work there are generally really dedicated and great to work with. Very intelligent group of individuals.

Cons

Compensation offered tends to be less than that of competitors. Unstable work environment due to constant changes. Salary doesn't increase greatly over time.

Advice to Management

Communicate with your employees more about potential changes within company BEFORE they arise. Spend more time with your employees and less time with other senior managers.

    Pros

    Fairly competitive salary, location, access to professionals in field. Pros include the opportunity to work on camera, which is particularly valuable for people who are print reporters by training. It's not like there are a ton of jobs for print journalists that offer high pay out there, so evolving your toolkit is hugely important. Also, on the salary - it's better than most similar positions in the mainstream media get paid, and even amongst competitors in the tech trade niche, it seems pretty good. Time off and work/life balance are appreciated at UBM. Performance standards may be fairly high, but not being driven to live our lives at the office.

    Cons

    Fear of downsizing, stagnant wage increases, mixed messages from management on performance benchmarks. As the Web side picks up, there's just constant pressure on reporters to hit ever-rising Web traffic benchmarks. This absolutely gets in the way of enterprise reporting and disincentives breaking a story or doing any kind of deep-diving analysis, because it's just much more efficient to chase popular stories that are clustering at the top of the various Google News categories. What that means, in essence, is that reporters are becoming the stenographers of the various PR firms, vendors and operatives that drive news cycles. Just a real shame.

    Advice to Management

    Take the journalism more seriously. Find a better balance between resources and energy going towards events and to the content side of the house. Find metrics other than Web traffic to rate reporters' job performance. Actually, even within the Web traffic metric, show us more than just the raw page view numbers. What about click-through rates and time spent on the page? Raw page views don't tell the whole story.

    Pros

    If you want to learn how badly an employee can be treated, then CMP is the place for you! Also a great experiance if you want to know how it feels to have others take credit for your work. If you want to learn how to throw journalistic integrity out the window and opperate with no scrupples, CMP is a great place to learn!

    Cons

    Arrogent and uncaring managment. Slave-driving attitude. Workers are constantly belittled. Machavellian tactics are always used. Managment constanly lies! Loyalty to the company is rewarded by termination. The company firmly believes in the axiom "penny smart and pound foolish". Upper managment and execs are rewarding themselves for a job poorly done and are thankless to those who actually do the work.

    Advice to Management

    Replace yourselves with competent individuals!
