I have been working at UBS part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

The atmosphere is great; can't beat working in a skyscraper in Downtown Chicago. The people are also really quality.

Cons

The intern gatherings were mostly seminar styled gatherings, and there isn't much of an opportunity to meet more than a few interns over the course of the internship. It would be better if the interns could be gathered every once in a while for the sake of mingling.

Advice to Management

Have social intern events.

Rock solid stable bank with great capital ratios and international presence
Customers love the brand and like doing business
    Some very good people

    Cons

Bureaucratic processes sometimes lead to confusion
Unable to take a consistent long term view
Management has changed man times - leading to changing strategy and focus

    Advice to Management

Cut the bureaucracy - many of the American competitors are much more nimble and agile

I worked at UBS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great entry level position within the marketing department. Most of the work revolves around project and relationship management. Given the brand, it can be a little tough to truly push the envelope for getting marketing collateral created. However, when big projects are completed and you [hopefully] get feedback on how it helped an FA build their business, it can be extremely rewarding. Great colleagues help to make the work environment less stressful

    Cons

Pay is definitely not competitive with the rest of the financial services industry (verified with numerous friends, ex-colleagues and recruiters with knowledge of similar job roles within the industry), too much emphasis is placed on pleasing the FA and not necessarily remaining compliant with Firm/industry regulations, career options within your department can be limited

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more, especially the ones who are putting in the time and expertise to create a better product, more conversations should be had around career development (not just at mid year and year end reviews), develop a cross-department mentorship program (too many departments operate in silos and can run contrary to your job responsibilities)
