I worked at UC San Diego full-time

Pros

I dealt with so many different events on a day to day basis which increased my experience of managing several projects at once. There are possibilities for promotions which is nice. They were also various incentives of working within the UC system.

Cons

Communication throughout every department at UCSD is just terrible. There is no consistency in who to contact for various services etc. It is always a challenge tracking down the right individual for help without someone saying 'thats not my job'

Advice to Management

See cons. Improve communications among departments.

I worked at UC San Diego full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

UCSD has a supportive work environment, motivated researchers, and is an excellent academic school. I enjoyed my time there.

    Cons

There doesn't seem to be a lot of organization in training for teaching. The grad students in my department were given exactly 6 hours of training over the course of a year, so the day they started teaching classes they had only 2 hours of teacher training under their belts. Not enough prep for the working environment. Tons of focus on research detracts from a quality teaching environment.
