Pros

Great mission. Great work environment - you're surrounded by prominent scientists working to cure and prevent disease. Always something going on - farmers market, lectures, films. Opportunity to get involved in projects beyond the typical EA tasks, but depending on the faculty member, this might take initiative on your part. Access to medical journals. Great benefits. Great leadership.

Cons

Few opportunities for staff to engage in professional development. You really have to advocate for yourself to get this. Very difficult to get a raise or promotion if you stay in the same group/dept. Many "lifers" who don't appear to be interested in working hard or improving things. Very bureaucratic. Low pay.

Advice to Management

Train and support great staff. Think of creative ways to retain good people.
