Disapproves of CEO

Pros

Great weather, close to the beach, world-class facilities, highly intelligent and mostly personable professors. Most facilities used for research are relatively new.

Cons

Dealing with the personality of LA people, no campus bar, little appreciation by the UCLA community, compensation not commensurate with effort required or cost-of-living

Advice to Management

UCLA should invest much more on hiring talented professors and ensuring they have the resources required to effectively teach classes. Furthermore, the system is filled with bureaucratic inefficiency. The amount of paperwork required to operate here should be reduced.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Top research institution. Major city with lots of things to do out of work. Good mentors. Good collaborative working environment. Great weather.

    Cons

Very expensive city, especially the Westwood area. Traffic is horrible to get around anywhere. Research funding budgets are being slashed across the board.

    Pros

The work is quite interesting depending on adviser. Lots of instrumentation available.

    Cons

Pay is very poor. New graduate students get automatic raises, older students do not.
