Pros

* Brand recognition in certain industry sectors * Some of the smartest minds work in some of the divisions (outside of UL technology division) * Some of the mid level managers and lower level staff are fantastic and are probably the smartest and hardest workers I have seen.

Cons

* The business unit is lead by a set of executives and senior managers who do not have experience leading or managing businesses. * This unit is basically a part of the UL business focused on technology, a mish-mash together through acquisitions. If you want to know how not to integrate your acquisitions, UL EHSS would be your stand out example. * Business partners are treated as if they are easily replaceable. Due to senior management's inexperience and inadequate structure (as a result of the poor integration) leads to many a business partner feeling like they got a raw deal. * The inexperience of the senior management also leads to challenges for internal mid managers who want to do the right thing. * Limited to no long term planning.

Pros

- The team is great. Both morning and night shift tend to interact well and joke. Both teams know the importance of time and place meaning they take work seriously but also have fun. - Manager of the department is really cool and is a team leader. Really cares for the team - Good job to gain experience

Cons

- Peak season is a drag. 72hr weeks for ~11 weeks really takes a toll, and upper management doesn't really do anything to help. - The pay isn't all that great compared to other engineers in the Bay Area. - Certification testing follows the procedures of the client and regulatory agencies. There isn't much room to express creative thought. Mundane work. - Regional Manager doesn't have the interest of the employees, only of the client. Regional would go to the meeting as a yes man to the client without consulting the engineering leads. - Ever since UL Solutions went public, it doesn't feel like a safety company. They care more about how much money they can make or save than about the safety of the consumer product.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your thoughts. We are happy to hear that you work in a positive team environment where you feel cared about and that you have been able to gain positive experience. We understand that some may encounter longer working hours, especially during peak periods tied to customer deadlines. Although these situations are time‑limited and part of real project demands, we recognize that extended hours can be challenging and are not something we want to become the norm. We are actively exploring ways to better balance workload expectations, provide clearer guidance around work hours, and ensure managers have the tools to support healthy work practices. We appreciate this feedback.
