I worked at UMBC as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

My Dept Chair was fantastic. The Best students are truly outstanding. An impressive resume builder, while you look for a career job inside or outside of academia. Great for if you want to teach just for the love or teaching, or to build your resume.

    Cons

No benefits for adjuncts. (We were encouraged to sign up for Medicaid.) Salary is terrible--$3,700 or so for one class, per semester. I was given a lot of student--about 50--meaning that my workload was very high for my incredibly low salary and no benefits.

    Advice to Management

Create living-wage full-time teaching positions. Your current school functions only because you exploit adjunct faculty.

A good place to learn new things and meet new friends from different countries and cultures

    Cons

Salary is not very satisfying. Requires more investment to provide more state-of-the-art equipment
