I worked at UMass Medical School full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

good benefits package - better than a lot of places since it's a public institution. good support system with regards to foreign scholars, and there are a lot of good researchers here

Cons

salaries (even those that are NIH guidelines) are guidelines only, it is apparently up to the discretion of the supervisor to follow them. Some supervisors are there only to take advantage of the postdocs and do not care about their next steps, some go out of their way to help, but really, most do not. Parking is terrible.

Advice to Management

Care about your employees as actual human beings that have families, and a future to think about!

I have been working at UMass Medical School full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary is not controlled by the SChool. Everything is up to a PI. My PI pays postdocs with 3 years of experience 36000 per year. While NIH guidance is 46000

    Cons

Nice weather :-) and save location

I have been working at UMass Medical School full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a project driven environment in the medical school. You will learn a lot hands on skills for doing practical research. The team I have been work with is productive.

    Cons

Don't expect too much independent time for doing your own research is you don't have your own funding. The pay is in the lower part of the market, given the living cost of Worcester is fairly high. Gym, cafeteria are terrible, benefits are so so.
