I have been working at UNC Chapel Hill part-time

    Pros

I worked in the Department of Geophysical Sciences. It was very informative with flexible hours. The professor I worked with was highly intelligent and helpful.

    Cons

Sometimes the work could get repetitive, but if you pursued other types of work it was readily available.

I worked at UNC Chapel Hill part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great mentoring, support, and one-on-one time with my PI.
    - Friendly people and beautiful campus.
    - Countless opportunities for students to work in research labs.

    Cons

    - As a student, can be hard to find work on campus if you are not in the work-study program.
    - Many PIs expect undergraduates to work for free. Do not fall into this trap. Apply for grants or find a boss willing to pay you.
    - Money and politics are the primary factors in decision making. If not surprising, it is certainly disheartening to see in a public institution of higher education.

    Advice to Management

Remember what makes UNC a wonderful place: great academics and research and a thriving campus community. Don't let political agendas and budget cuts spoil this, and find more suitable ways than buzzwords like "innovation" to promote Carolina's strengths.
