No opinion of CEO

Pros

There are a great deal of research opportunities or projects going on in UPMC, even for the students without working experience. The provided health insurance is awesome

Cons

I can not think of major drawback now..one thing is that the salary may not be as competitive as compared to other companies

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

There's a lot of positions available.
    A lot of shifts available.
Location is pretty centrally located if you live in Pittsburgh--right off of main bus lines.
There's a lot of pleasant people working there.

    Cons

    Everything.
The salary is low compared to acute care facilities.
Management and supervisors are completely lazy, unreliable, and incompetent.
Discipline is completely arbitrary. Lots of people are so criminally negligent they would have their butts fired and probably prosecuted if they were at other places I've worked, while some of the best coworkers I've ever seen get driven out for trivial things like punching out a few minutes late.
    No flexibility in scheduling.

    Advice to Management

Leave the hospital business and go sell weapons on the black market. At least you can drop the pretense of pretending to care about people's well-being (it's degrading for all of us to listen to you mumble platitudes about patient care as you scheme to cut people's insurance and squeeze every last cent out of your captive audience) and focus on your true passion, the cynical ruthless pursuit of profit at the cost of human life.

"Corporate is out of touch with its clinical employees but overall the hospitals provide quality care."

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

job security, money, prestige, experience, global presence

    Cons

long hours, short lunches, under apperciated

    Advice to Management

You cannot afford to stop accepting Highmark insurance in 2013 as a significant portion of patients have it. Secondly, corporate must realize that quantity does not produce quality, you cannot have it both ways.
