I have been working at UPMC full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Lots of vacation time and you can carry over to next year or sell back PTO, health plan monthly cost very low, pay is decent, people get along with eachother really well.

Cons

Workload is heavy, deadlines are tight, projects never stop coming, any errors on your part will be talked about during your annual evaluation. Plan on your mistakes being brought up again and again.

Advice to Management

Say no to projects that are unnecessary or waste of resources. Stop piling on project after project, it is a recipe for mistakes.

I worked at UPMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours...workday is 8-4:30 but if you need to do something during the day or need to adjust your hours, it can be done if your total work hours amount to 8 in a day
    Reasonable salary usuaaly apid midrange
Tolerable working conditions- nice offices, individual cubicals
Work independence for the most partnoone looking over your shoulder all day

    Cons

    Unnecssary and unproductive meetings
Difficulty getting time off usually due to lack of staffing
Unknowlegable managers who rely on experience nurses to provide information on 'rules'
Nepotism, people are usually promoted based on their frindships or physical appearance

    Advice to Management

Quit holding grudges against employees who know more about the business than you do. Promotions should be based on job performance and interpersonable skills rather on friendship.

I have been working at UPMC part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very welcoming and accommodating work environment. The people are nice and helpful, and are willing to teach you tasks or projects you never had before. Very helpful gathering times where full time as well as part time workers can hang out and get to know with one another. Very little tension between lower and higher position relationship.

    Cons

The emergency or evacuating situation was compromised during my time working there. The hospital however is working their best to improve their security measures and workers are very happy and supportive in the new security measures.
