    Pros

Because UPMC is a big company there is a lot going on all the time, enough to keep people on their toes for many years.

    Cons

Unfortunately people have been promoted for seniority but lack the competence to be senior managers
People are promoted for longevity, not competency, therefore many career people that slow growth and innovation.
Decentralization causes the company to be redundant and inefficient.
Many people were laid off in the past few years so the company is running lean and putting a lot of stress and work on those that stayed.

    Advice to Management

Centralize the structure of the organization to create cross-communication and reduce doubling of efforts. Run the company like one well-oiled machine instead of the many different silos that don't communicate and operate independently.
