I worked at UPS part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked on the airport ramp. Job stayed interesting mentally and physical. Good batch of co-workers looking out for each other. Benefits and consistent/guaranteed hours (union). Early enough hours doesn't conflict with full time employment. Strong safety awareness and equipment training.

    Cons

Not optional union; hard to get rid of employees. Worked outside in all elements and early hours take awhile to adjust to.

    Advice to Management

Stricter policies in areas needed to support termination of lack luster employees.

I have been working at UPS as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Pay, good equipment, OT after 8, Full days when working. If you get hired full time and can make it to seniority status, the job is gravy and lucrative. Great opportunities for advancement. If you can afford $16/hr and part time work in the beginning(raises come quick and in big chunks. $22/hr by 6 or 9 moths I'm told) then great once you get seniority.

    Cons

You are the last one in line for work, no matter what senior regular guys have worked that week. You can start any time day or night, as long as you have had your 10 hrs. off. You live by the phone and there is very little forecast as to your next works shift. I have started as early as 3am and as late as 11pm. Biggest rub is that regular senior guys can work all day @ OT while low regular or seasonal guys sit at home w/o pay & only part time hours for the week

    Advice to Management

Try to give on call guys better idea of their next work shift so they can sleep at the proper time.
