I have been working at URS Corporation part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It pays a salary, sort of.

    Cons

You might as well be a contractor. There is no support for in-house employees. It doesn't matter how well you've worked for how many years or how much money you've brought in the door; it's always "what have you done for me lately?" If work gets slow for a bit, you have to take leave without pay. They will not carry employees through even short (a few weeks) periods of slow work, even if one has been 98% chargeable for the past year. Then they threaten your benefits because you're taking leave without pay. Why work for a company, letting them take 60-70% of the money that clients pay for your services if they don't give you support, benefits, all those "overheads" they tack onto clients costs? You might as well work independently and keep ALL the money. I mean, if you have to buy your own health insurance anyway, and you have to find your own work or not get paid, why not? I can do feast or famine on my own.

    Advice to Management

Think about employees as more than just financial liabilities that take profit from shareholders. All the value of the company is actually in the employees.

I worked at URS Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Variety of projects, size and scope, interdiscipline work, reach within US and sometimes overseas depending on market

    Cons

Poor investment on employee development, Management concerned mostly about making billable hours, Sr Management assigns and removes staff without project leadership input

    Advice to Management

When up and coming and succesful Engineers keep leaving after a few years something is not working properly
