I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Benefits. You are in a contract, so you know that for "X" amount of years you have a job unless you get into trouble or get put on the Date of Seperation Rollback for "poor" performance.

Cons

They want to be a military, but do not enforce military standards. Its a business and it would be MUCH more successfull if they did it that way. Otherwise the ranking structure should be revamped and established solid early on. Also this company places very young people into supervisory rolls due to the "great NCO giveaway" every year.

Advice to Management

Learn about your people and don't use rank as a basis for there knowledge basis. We are the smartest people known to mankind exploit that and see your programs become much better.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Air Force is structured and stable so it's a good choice for these uncertain economic times. You get to start a brand new career from scratch without experience so that is pretty great. There are many opportunities once you enter to broaden your horizons.

    Cons

Since it is a very secure and stable job, people tend to become lazy and complacent. If you have poor management they do not hold people accountable and that can become a very frustrating situation. People are promoted not necessarily because they have shown they can handle more responsibility, but merely because they can score well on a test.

    Advice to Management

Do the right thing. Stop being lazy, don't turn a blind eye, and hold everyone accountable to the standards.

I worked at US Air Force full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For me, nothing. Decent salary and thats about it.

    Cons

    Insecure, know-it-alls run this place!
The Air Force isnt like it used to be, integrity is certainly lacking
Stressful, micromanagement techniques utilized throughout my entire stint there
    Unneccesary drama

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging! Grow some confidence and stop stressing your workers out to the point of counterproductivity!
