Pros

Teamwork, Helping Wounded Warriors, Morale, Good Pay, Good Benefits, Protecting National Interests. Winning Wars, National Security, Really Good Looking Uniforms, You get to travel the world.

Cons

Physical Training gets to be a drag sometimes. PT Tests can affect your career. Writing awards and performance reports for yourself gets old. But, It is still that best job out there.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic group of people working together as a team to protect the country. Operations is a constant challenge to adapt and succeed in air employment. Quickly get responsibility and led people as you gain rank. Eventually the promotions take you away from the 'fun' but it still needs to get done. Fantastic retirement (if you make it to 20) and benefits.

    Cons

You will feel like a cog in the wheel at times on staffs (especially in DC). The bureaucracy does get in the way of getting things done quickly in the major headquarters. Constant deployments is hard on families and marriages though the work you do downrange is important depending on the mission. Benefits and retirement is under attack because of the costs. Not sure where this trend will take the military but change is coming. Large personnel cuts are underway for mid to senior leadership.

    Advice to Management

Budget issues and the changing benefits is dragging down morale. Understand the political climate is difficult but the long term impacts will be hard to manage.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, interesting work, great networking opportunites, great AO level relationship, endless opportunity for continuing education

    Cons

Congressional manning and funding can be an annual pain, lots of upper level micromanagement, last second travel is sometimes inconvenient

    Advice to Management

Empower mid level employees to accomplish goals
