I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great training, growth rewarded, leadership training, available mentorship, structure, responsibility. If you enjoy what you are doing, theres plenty to keep you from boredom. Pay increase for responsibly increase most of the time.

Cons

Long hours, large bureaucracy, questionable leadership at times, hypocrisy, depending on your job privacy may be an issue, loss of typical civilian freedoms (speech, protest, etc). The further you climb the ladder, the more political you must become. Your actual job will mean less and less and your ability to play the game and get people to do certain things will keep you employed for the most part.

Advice to Management

Eventually, the system will have to change if you want to keep talent around.

    Pros

It is a great place for young people to start life.

    Cons

Do not recommend making a career out of the Air Force. When they are done with you, they just send you an email letting you know you have been selected for separation or retirement.

    Advice to Management

Benefits are rapidly disappearing. Do not expect your people to continue the unstable life if no benefits remain to make the lifestyle worth it. 20 years of unstable life causes a lot of hardship on families and a lot end in divorce.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits while on active duty, huge promotion potential and opportunity to do things and be part of something most civilians will never have the chance to do. You'll work with some of the best people in the world and have access to numerous recreation activities and facilities other employers don't offer.

    Cons

Upper level management takes very little lower level input. Relocating often if you don't like to travel or uproot your family every few years.
