I have been working at US Airways full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Excellent access to directors, great mentors, excellent opportunity for advancement if you're willing to work hard, easy access for lateral movement, and flexible schedule.

Cons

Uncertainly regarding possible mergers, starting salary low (but increases greatly if you stick around), young department (often feels like I'm back at the frat house)

Advice to Management

Financials have looked good despite challenges - think the company is headed in the right direction.

    Pros

    Flexible job with flying benefits... Good start up job for college students!

    Cons

    Not too well paid job unless you work for a union and put in some good time to reach a good salary... Management is a bit unprofessional and seems to be more concern about numbers than the wellness, job satisfaction, and moral of the employees! Mangement positions are not well paid.

    Advice to Management

    Change philosophy of management and get with the current times! Your number one customer is the employees, if you have happy employees you will definitely have a more profitable company!

    I have been working at US Airways full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    This company is extremely cost conscious. I believe that is why US Airways is one of the profitable companies in the industry and is able to employ over 32,000 employees worldwide and has a bright future either as a stand alone company or a merged company. It is well managed and the employees, in general are fiven ebnough training and power to make decisions that streamlines the process and makes it better for our customers. It has a system in place to listen to its employees as well. Casual Fridays, holiday parties, etc.

    Cons

    The pay is still lower than its competitors. Better vacation policy would be a plus. They don't bridge time if you leave and come back and have to start over at 1 week a year. Are you kidding? Then after 5 years, it is only 2 weeks.

    Advice to Management

    Before making a decision on merging the company, look at more than numbers. Weigh the pros and cons with data to determine the impact on families and your most treasured resource, the employee. That is the impact of having to move, the work load and the emotional cost of the airline. Bigger is not always better.
