I have been working at US Army Corps of Engineers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Army Corps of Engineers offers excellent career development opportunities in a wide array of disciplines. Engineers of evey type are employed and the atmophere is very collegial. Flexible work schedules and tele-work arrangements are available. For those with excess use-or-lose vacation (annual leave) time, they can, if they choose, donate the excess time to an eligible co-worker who may not have enough to cover an unexpected event such as extended illness or family tragedy.

    Cons

Work is often performed subject to an enormous amount of regulatory and FAR requirements. The learning curve for these can be quite challenging.

    Advice to Management

Continue seeking ways to overcome bureaucracy and "stovepipe" impediments to organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

    Pros

Opportunity to learn and practice every imaginable field of engineering
Travel opportunities around the US and overseas (primarily middle-east)
    Great benefits

    Cons

Standard government criticism - in a high-demand field, some failing individuals will be retained/promoted simply because of the numbers game

    Advice to Management

Ensure engineers are properly resourced to do a job before you send them to do it - expertiese without capability is wasted effort
