I worked at US Army full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits package, growth potential, and schooling. There are several career fields you can go into from the beginning with the possibility of crossing over somewhere down the road if you find an opening. No where else will pay you to learn your new career and then give you the experience in that career to be successful down the road.

    Cons

A lot of politics, and hurry up and wait games. Upper to mid management like to up the show time as the word gets passed down the line for any function that is going to take place. If the big boss want to see everone at 6am he puts that out in his meeting. then when it gets passed down each level 10-15 minutes gets taken off the front end of that time and by the time it gets to the lowest man in the chain he arrives at the function 30-45 minutes prior to anything going on. A lot of wasted time in the military in general but guess that's why everyone is a salary worker instead of hourly.

    Advice to Management

Better time management and communication flow up and DOWN the chain. See comment in the Cons section. Communication ust needs to be a lot better throughout the Army. And believe it or not but one of the worst units for communication flow is actually in a signal (communication) tyoe units. but every business has it pros and cons and all in all the military has far more pros than cons. at least it did for me.

I have been working at US Army full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The military is what you make of it, take advantage of the opportunities afforded to you and you can create a strong foundation for your future. The uniqueness of the experiences you have while serving will separate you from the competition.

    Cons

Although the majority of the leadership can be a real positive to the job you will have many head scratching interactions. However the challenges posed by poor leadership leads a unique problem solving skill set.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose sight of the facts on the ground
