    I worked at US Army full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Education benefits are top notch.
    Medical care for self and family is great.
    On base services can save lots of money in fees and taxes.
    Bonuses are sometimes available for in demand skill sets.
    Great opportunity for further education upon separation from service.
    Future employers look favorably on veterans.

    Cons

    Difficult on family due to long hours and deployments.
    Frequent moves are hard on school age children.
    Overseas deployments of a year or more without dependents can be really hard on marriages and relationships.
    Hard work is recognized, but no financial bonus are available for outstanding or above average performance.
