    Negative Outlook

I have been working at US Bureau of Land Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people are good to work with. Never boring - lots of work to keep you busy. Maxi-flex schedule allows you to work extra hours during the week so you can flex out on Friday or Monday. Most jobs are field going, meaning you are outside a lot during the summer.

    Cons

Pay is below average, but benefits are good. Management tends to overlook the slackers and give numerous chances to those who don't deserve it.

    Advice to Management

Get a backbone and get rid of the people who aren't doing their jobs.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at US Bureau of Land Management full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flextime, accrual of up to 240 hours of leave in one year. Ability to routinely work outside in the field.

    Cons

Managers have a huge amount of discretion, routinely show favoritism/preferential treatment to "favorites", are not held accountable, often ill-suited for management and routinely show a lack of leadership skills. Poor communication skills increase conflict between staffs.

    Advice to Management

Find some experienced folks with integrity, good communication skills, well rounded technical background for mid-level managers. Get rid of mid-level managers that promote conflict, lack maturity in regard to personnel matters, lack conflict resolution skills, lack ability to communicate well, do not understand the program requirements that they supervise, treat the people they supervise unequally showing clear peer-group favorites, are easily manipulated and promote backstabbing between peers.
