Positive Outlook

I worked at US Census Bureau full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

If you think about what it really means, to count the people for the correct distribution of state representatives, and all sorts of economic, scientific and social purposes; counting people is really important. And, it feels good to take part in something as historic as that.

Cons

Trying to explain that to people who didn't want to hear it, especially after they listen to talk radio that tried to make people fearful of the census.

Advice to Management

Give enumerators more concrete reasons why things are done a certain way, so they can explain them to participants who are squeamish about the government. If people understood better, they might remember that the government is us, not them.

I worked at US Census Bureau part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1. If you like to meet and work with all sorts of people, this is the job to do that.
    2. Very flexible schedule as long as you get your work done.
    3. The Bureau pays on time.

    Cons

    1. The Bureau provides a script to train you, but the quality of training depends on the trainer. The trainers need better training.

    2. Learn on your own what you really need to do, because instructions from your immediate supervisor will be contradictory and he or she will get mad if you ask for better instructions. No one wants a mad supervisor.

    Advice to Management

    Train trainers better.

I worked at US Census Bureau part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great salary and management support for a temporary Part time position.

    Cons

Many testing for the Census Taker position had to take the exam and were not dressed properly. Also the positions were only for nine to twelve weeks every ten years.

    Advice to Management

Highly motivated, knowledgeable, and accommodated workers' schedules.
