I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

There is an incredible mission that people truly live. The work is incredibly fulfilling. Some of the best people I've ever met, I met at VA. It is a necessary institution to the well being of our nation and consequently, most people there approach their responsibilities with incredible passion and drive.

Cons

Like any government agency, there will be challenges based on the current leadership. During my tenure, I was blessed with leaders I trusted, who would put the needs of veterans at the heart of each decision, without ego.

I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Consistent pay. Mediocre benefits. Nobody will expect much from you.

    Cons

Outside of the medical centers the people who work there rarely care about about the people they are serving. Most consider their job an entitlement. There is a popular saying in sports that if you play with people better than you you will get better. Well, unfortunately it works the other way too. If you work with a bunch of losers you will decline in capability.
