Pros

The VA truly believes that their Veterans come first and it shows in their nursing care. Good nurse to patient ratios.

Cons

Some things are redundant and they dummy down a lot of jobs. They could get more out of their employees if they actually put them to use in their full potential. Too many managers. Low pay for the area.

Advice to Management

Increase salaries and work your employees to their full potential.

I have been working at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Satisfaction helping our Vets comes easy when working with a group of great people as I am. There is no monotony as every day brings different situations.

    Cons

When having the bad luck to work with people who are on, what we called in the military, the ROADs program (Retired On Active Duty) the workplace becomes frustrating at best. Those type people are allowed to just stay there and ruin it for everyone around them until they retire or worse, get promoted to a new section.

    Advice to Management

By weeding out the unproductive and counter productive people, the best will stay and rise to there potential which is good for the department.

I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

High salary for social workers, great benefits, job security, benefits, relocation potential (basically any where in the world where there is a military base)

    Cons

Getting a job after the internship has ended even if you were a stellar intern
