I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hard to come up with anything positive to say... The only good thing about this place is the location: San Diego. There are neighboring hospitals near UCSD that are more competent than the VA located on campus.

    Cons

One of the worst jobs I've ever had. Too bureaucratic and very difficult to get anything done. No wonder it is so inefficient.

    Advice to Management

As a government job, take better care of your employees and ensure that they are being treated fairly.

I have been working at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the best people I have ever worked with, a great mission, and career stability.

    Cons

Some of the worst leadership I have ever worked under. Long term career/empire builders are entrenched in outdated mindsets and methods, which recent scandals have revealed are across all areas of the VA. The truth about pay is that on the lower end of the GS Pay Scale, salaries are higher than averages. On the higher end of the GS scale, you are seriously underpaid for what you do, the education and experience levels, etc.

    Advice to Management

Please retire. Your time is done. It's time for a new generation to take over.
