I have been working at US Department of Veterans Affairs as an intern (More than a year)

Pros

For anyone who wants to keep their experience sharp, this agency is welcoming to volunteers, and creates opportunities for whatever direction the volunteer wants to grow in. There are opportunities for Continuing Education for professionals, and a stipend for lunch when you work the entire day.

Cons

I did not find any negatives when I was volunteering three days weekly for over 12 months. The staff were diverse and welcoming.

Advice to Management

Continue the great work!

    Negative Outlook

I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The salaries are very high, that is the only way they can get anyone to work there.

    Cons

The favoritism among employees and management goes to extremes. The whole concept of this place is based on corruption. Jobs are created by management for their brother-in-law or neighbor, other people are bullied like school children. It doesn't matter how high you go on the pay scale, you are not safe from their abuse. So few people actually work, while others get away with 8 hours of playing games and being on facebook all day.

    Advice to Management

The corruption has been going on for decades, the medical center director doesn't stand a chance to clean up this place.
