I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Number one is I am surrounded by the finest people I could hope to work with. My job is intellectually challenging and world changing. I have had unlimited educational opportunities, earning three masters along the way. Global deployments make it the most interesting job I can imagine.

Cons

Time away from family tops the list. The pending draw down has limited promotion opportunities and of course there is the standard bureaucratic nonsense like any organization faces.

Advice to Management

Hold the standard, do not give in to fads or political whims.

I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good times when there are a lot of moving parts; traveling to exotic locations, meeting interesting people and blowing them up with today's most advanced weaponry.

    Cons

Too many scumbags joined the USMC when we needed 'bodies' and crap in = crap out. It's that simple. It tears apart at the fabric of the small unit and typically is a greater burden upon us all when that %10 of individuals want to make unilateral decisions for themselves and be selfish.

    Advice to Management

Have an express lane for the people that weren't cut out for the USMC. That will separate the weak from the strong and forge a better cohesive corps.
