I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Constant motivation to stay in shape, decent pay/benefits, ability to travel, cool uniforms, interesting jobs, opportunity for advancement, it is very much a brotherhood, other Marines will almost always do anything for you.

    Cons

Promotion system is broken, leadership is always overbearing and in your face, no consistency with scheduling, if leadership doesn't like you you will never get a good performance review, no matter how good you are at your job.

    Advice to Management

    You're not infallible

I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This organization has done a fantastic job of instilling leadership and dedication in young men and women. I have over 20+ years as a Marine and significant experience in a Joint Command with other services. They are all great to work with and have many fine attributes but when it comes down to the overall experience, the Marine Corps is a benchmark for creating a mission-oriented organizational culture. The Basic School for ALL starting Marine Officers (2nd Lts) is a 6-month Combat MBA unmatched by any other service.

    Cons

The good news is that the Marine Corps is small and "Tribal"... The bad news is that the Marine Corps is small and "Tribal". This means that changes within the organization have a significantly stronger ripple-effect than changes in a larger organization. It also means that your reputation will get to your next command well before you do... therefore it is wise to both foster a good reputation and defend it vigorously. The Marine Corps is simply a harder path than other services. As an Airman once told me, "Unlike the Air Force, the Marine Corps does not come with HBO as standard". If you become a Marine that will make sense to you after less than a year.
