I worked at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Job you can be proud of. Many enlisted ratings (i.e., job types) give skills that will actually be valuable to civilian employers, much more than many college majors. Pay for some senior enlisted and officers can be quite good, especially when additional benefits are considered. Camaraderie makes for great concern for the people you work with relative to civilian jobs. People tend to care for each other better than they do in the civilian world. Job can be very exciting; people will actually want to hear about your experiences.

Cons

Junior enlisted should be paid better for the work they do. (As an officer though, I was quite satisfied with my pay.)

Time away from family.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great, including dental. The pay is decent and managing the basic allowance for housing (BAH) nets a good amount of coin. Job security is solid, once in a position in the Navy, it's hard to get fired.

    Cons

Once you've signed the dotted line and are in the Navy, it's hard to get out. As an employee you're either overworked or underworked with little control. With all the overhead regulation and red tape, it's almost impossible to innovate and find new solutions to existing problems...and good luck motivating others to go along with your new way of doing things.

    Advice to Management

Figure out which rules can be broken for the sake of morale of your employees.
