I worked at US Navy full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Real world education and experience, great benefits, and adequate pay. Chance to travel the world for free. See great things and meet great people.

Cons

The only downside to the Navy is being at war. During this time frame you truly have little-to-no control of your life and/or schedule.

Advice to Management

Take care of your people; education, home, and work.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to serve and grow as a leader & manager. Great pay & benefits. Upward mobility for top performers.

    Cons

Overtime often expected. Significant budget constraints; no opportunity to accel by brining in new business or revenue.

    Advice to Management

People perform at their best when they believe there is value in what they are doing and that their work is appreciated. Expecting employees to work harded and longer does not necessarily translate to success.

  2. "Great experience"

I worked at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free College, they push you to get certifications which only help YOUR career, hands on experience for systems you would never get access to in any entry level position in any company.

    Cons

It's the military, you have to deploy, you have to do actual work, you have to work for people who may actually have less experience and qualification than you, and when you feel it's time to leave the organization the environment has the potential to get toxic.

    Advice to Management

Continue to assist your subordinates in their careers instead of using them as stepping stones for your own.
