Pros

Work with great people. Good professional training opportunities, Excellent leadership experiences. Skills easily transferred to private sector. Good networking opportunities as well. Great benefits.

Cons

Work-life balance almost non-existent at times. Frequent management & leadership changes creates significant churn and disruption to work processes. Time is often not your own.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady pay. Considering tax benefits and free medical/dental, salary is relatively high. Pay promotions occur every two years after the 2nd year and are predictable. Rank increases are also fairly predictable.

    Cons

No such thing as working hours. I've worked 60+ hrs with regularity while assigned to a ship. Considering increased working hours (due to decreased manpower and funds) and increasingly extended deployments, the work-life balance is non-existent. Difficult to be a parent while on sea duty.

    Advice to Management

Ships are not being properly funded/maintained with insufficient manpower. Lack of resources cannot be overcome by increased working hours.
