I worked at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Travel, educational opportunities. You're always able to look for opportunities for schools and educational opportunities. Plus it gives you veteran's preference for the rest of your life. The GI-Bill is also great.

    Cons

None! I understood what I was getting into when I enlisted to my expectations were already adjusted for the hard times of missing holidays and such.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Travel is extensive and mandatory. If you do not like your boss they'll change every 2-3 years. Benefits are great - where else will you get %50 of your pay for the rest of your life after 20 years of service?

    Cons

Travel is extensive and mandatory, family life can be hard. If you like your boss they'll change every 2-3 years. While homesteading is not impossible, it's not easy either.
