I worked at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Very good training, mentorship and experience. You get to choose the job that you want to do when you enlist. You do not have to stay at one specific job area. You rotate to get the full experience. They will send you to different trainings depending on your job in addition to paying for collage courses. GI bill is also a big plus.

Cons

Duties and deployments make it hard for the family. Not everyone gets deployed but almost everyone has duty. It can be hard for some people to get used to the military life.

I worked at US Navy as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's an energy-filled community. You'll travel the World meeting and working with cultures that you've only dreamed of.

    Cons

You may not get as much paid vacation as you want, but time off will be lengthy and rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Work as much as you can on getting a good hand on insubordination with the disrespect and incompliance or disgruntle attitudes from the Jr. Ranks- Don't smooth it over! Deal with it from the start. Take a stand no matter whose child one may be it doesn't give them a right to be a know it all before they put their Military honorable service time in.

    Pros

Benefits, people, diversity. So many opportunities to learn, travel experiences.

    Cons

The time away from family but the travel experiences are great.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the younger, junior sailors that are doing the job daily.
