Pros

Great people, chance to help people start businesses that change their lives.

Cons

Its government so when Administration changes you tend to reinvent the wheel.

Advice to Management

To improve employee moral look to increase the bonus pool to employees outside of Washington. Its not fair for Senior Executive Service employees who many times do not supervise a staff to get the highest performance bonus in the ageny, ranging from 5000-10000 per week, while District Office managers who supervise staff get less than 2000!

    Pros

my experience was unique b/c i was working after hurricane katrina on a temp basis. the only reason to work there in the same way that i was is because you need a job that pays quickly. There was lots of overtime and per diem for out of town workers. on an annualized basis I came close to a 100k per year.

    Cons

my experience was unique b/c i was working after hurricane katrina on a temp basis. the downside was it was a 6 day a week twelve hour + days and away from family.

    Advice to Management

reduce the bureaucracy -- the system was too complex to be manageable. push decisionmaking down. Identify the "good" workers, pay them well, treat them well. allow them to occasionally make a mistake. the checks and balances were too expensive and complex to be justifiable.
