I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

The mission statement is more than just lip service. Plenty of advancement opportunities if you are good at reading the culture and can build relationships (the more the better). Surprisingly innovative in some specific areas focused on member-contact and analytics.

Cons

Senior managers don't want to rock the boat - jealous of the goodwill they've earned and don't want to spend it - success is all about relationships. People who are good at getting things done aren't always embraced. There is an insularity about the place...tremendous opportunities to save money and focus the business are not explored because
we just know we're the best.

Advice to Management

Our awesome members and their loyalty might not carry us forever. We should act like we're competing for their business more and our status quo less.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at USAA as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good salary
    Good company
    Easy to follow the politics
People are great - some of the kindest people you'll find
Everyone honestly wants you to succeed

    Cons

The work was mundane quite often and there isn't enough for an intern to do. The city is also boring. 'nuf said.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that there's enough work to do for the interns. The boredom was cruel at times.
