I have been working at Ulta Beauty part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Early hours, make the store look great for the seasons. A great employee discount. Helps when you purchase your favorite makeup.

Cons

Not enough hours a week. Now that we are approaching the holidays' maybe they will pick up more then 4 or 8 hours a week.

Advice to Management

Management is great. They care about you personally. Great store to work for.

    Pros

I worked with a variety of people, helped others feel beautiful. The environment was nice. i liked working with the people that were there

    Cons

not enough hours, they had trouble scheduling around a second job.

    Advice to Management

although i did not receive enough hours, you should not take on so many people that they are forced to get second jobs. you need to give your employees enough hours to want to make ulta a primary job.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee discount, Gratis, Customer interaction, gain product knowledge, and salon discounts

    Cons

They aren't very flexible with your schedule, too many "cliques" with mgmt, most mgmt show favoritism, if mgmt decides they don't like you they will cut your hrs w/o telling you why, with hopes that you will quit. The store stays short staffed ALL of the time but Ulta expects you to perform as if you are superman.....like running the registers, color matching guests, cleaning, stocking all at the same time. Good luck with that, it will not happen. You get reprimanded when it doesn't and so now you have performance issues through no fault of your own. If you decide to be a whistle blower or file a complaint, it's best you start looking for another job immediately. They will make your life miserable. They say no retaliation will happen if you do, that's not true. Your hrs get cut more, you get stares from the mgmt team, they have even gone as far as talking other employees to write false statements about people to get rid of them in exchange for more hours. It's nearly impossible to advance in mgmt, if that's what you want to do if you survive the 4 to 15 hrs a week and ZERO training. It's nearly impossible to use any sick time or vacation time that you have accrued b/c they stay at minimum staffing regularly. The store never gets cleaned the way it should because most of the time it's One Mgr and One Associate in the store, especially in the evenings. Ulta is very unrealistic in their expectations for their managers to complete their DOR's (division of responsibilities) before a certain time when they are minimally staffed. Employees are not valued like they should be. There is no consistency within the stores, every store does things differently. So if you ever transfer to another store,
good luck. They have 2 different types of rewards programs for the customers and it makes things difficult for the employees and the customer. Expect to get yelled at and cussed out by the customer b/c your store doesn't let them spend their points like the other stores do...b/c your store system isn't set up that way. The only thing they care about is their customer survey scores, in which half the time the good ones that they get, the employees are filling them out. The bad ones, are mostly true. Theft is ridiculous there. Especially in
    fragrance.

    Advice to Management

When you hire GMs, it's not a good idea to hire their friends to work in the same store with them as part of their mgmt team. They immediately show favoritism and everyone else employed as mgmt gets pushed out and disregarded. You should do more thorough background checks to find out why a person is no longer working as a GM in their previous jobs. Good chance they were fired because of a horrific attitude, racist demeanor, snobby personality, and poor job performance b/c they refused to work more than 40 hrs a week,
nights, and holidays. When a GM tells their DM that they will not be micro-managed, that they will get a certain time period off, and that they will not work for them unless they can bring in their own Mgmt team, and what they will and won't do...but the DM hires them anyway, there's a serious problem in your hiring process.
