I worked at Uni-Select full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Uniselect provided me with an opportunity to gain industry experience. Local control of operation has helped grow this company over time. Many employees were good people with tremendous experience.

Cons

New SAP platform has severely challenged morale and stability. Board has changed leadership way too frequently, seemingly blaming them for performance.

Advice to Management

It was not your employees fault that operations have deteriorated. Your system (SAP) is seriously flawed. Be honest with employees, firing several hundred people and calling it unlocking shareholder value is absurd.

I have been working at Uni-Select full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Five years ago things were very different with this company. Uni-Select used to be employee and customer oriented and it was a pleasure to work for them. The Best thing to come from this company in the last five years is the recent appointment of the current President of the US Group

    Cons

SAP computer conversionhad to be done due to all the different computer systems in the field but it has been a challenge to say the least... Reduced Inventory due to binge purchasing by SAP; Poor Service to Customers; Higher Cost of Goods- This could be done if you were giving customers a great level of service with awesome representation but we are no where close to that...
From the Sales Side of the company- Compensation packages have taken a huge hit. With all the focus on internal issues and making the shareholders more money, Uni-Select has lost sight of taking care of the customers. Customers who are now inundated with semi poor service and higher cost of goods. So when sales go down the best way to counteract this is to cut the number of salesmen and then when that doesn't work cut the remaining salesmen's compensation packages. Also the sales group car allowances have been drastically cut in the last couple of months. All this could mean a focus on the good folks looking elsewhere for employment but...
The one good thing is that the Uni-Select Sales Force is much older in age. Most of them could not go find another job due this fact. So they will stay put and this could be great news for Uni-Select. Maybe a second act encore???

    Advice to Management

Go back to the way of business that got you here in the first place... ie-Take care of the Customers and Employees like family

    I worked at Uni-Select full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The individuals and customers that make up the Uni-Select network are amazing.
The daily work was satisfying and challenging.

    Cons

Communication from upper management down to employees was mediocre. The rumor mill would inform employees of company changes weeks before upper management would; this lead to good employees leaving due to the fear of company changes before upper management could explain happenings.

    Advice to Management

Be more open with employees regarding changes. Don't leave unqualified or underperforming employees in positions just because they have been with the company for a long time.
