I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Big company, lots of opportunity if you are flexible and can move around the world. Great entry level job, but then get out by the time you make it to manager. Nice sustainability agenda.

Cons

Zero growth in NJ. Less upper management roles every year. Downsize and restructuring is the norm. Work life balance is poor. Leadership does not deliver. Leadership is encouraging an up or out mentality... meaning if you are not promoted in a couple years, you will be let go.

Advice to Management

Be careful what you wish for as you'll be losing a lot of your top talent.

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits & compensation package. Strong brands. Emphasis on teams.

    Cons

Bureaucracy. Sloth culture- nothing gets done. Decisions made that are counter to growth and common sense. Not sure this division of the company will exist in 18-24 months. Rumors abound that Unilever is exiting the food business and selling off the brands.

Roadblocks to successfully winning business make it more attractive to hang in the home office than pursue customers. And seriously, with a portfolio of over 500 items, why would they limit what we can sell based upon our job title?

Recent structural changes are disconcerting and morale is lower than Ive seen in more than 15 years.

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great culture and work environment
Very focused on employee development - that is good for you :)
    Exposure to world-class brands
For those that like to travel - there are global opportunities

    Cons

Not a decision culture - not enough employees are not empowered to make decisions
That results in way too many meetings that require too much analysis and too little action

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work on the culture, but, allow for a little more empowerment
