I have been working at Union Pacific full-time (More than a year)

Pros

A little tough to pick more than a few pros but here goes, benefits, travel, pay, location

Cons

Need to change the transfer policy from two years to a year. They don't care if you have a family, you get talked to if you layoff. Need to find a better system other than the seniority ranking so people can move up in their career field. They need to stop hiring all these new people if they have no where to put the in the service unit

Advice to Management

Managers need to come from the bottom, like start at the bottom in the department and work your way up. Just because you have a degree does not mean you know what you are doing when it comes to the railroad.

I worked at Union Pacific full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, railroad retirement and offer management a pension. Excellent pay, you are payed for your time away from your family.

    Cons

Very time demanding and can be very stressful depending on location. They will move you every 3 to 5 years.

    Advice to Management

IF you are a single individual this is an excellent career for you. If you have a family and want to see them STAY AWAY.
